USA DSA: First off, huge congrats on qualifying for the world skateboarding championships! How does it feel to be part of the team representing the USA at the World Skate Games?
CM: It’s a great honor to represent all my fellow racers and friends I’ve made up to this point. I’ll do my best to do them justice and bring home a medal.
USA DSA: Let’s kick it back to the beginning. What sparked your passion for street luge, and how did you get started in the sport?
CM: I started DH skating after a friend saw me cruising on campus and invited me to a session and I eventually was curious about street luges so started trying to make them. Been having fun making and riding them ever since.
USA DSA: Every athlete has a unique journey. What’s been the key to your success and progression in street luge?
CM: My location has been a huge factor in my ongoing journey, given I have access to the San Diego and LA scene which are both amazing. I’ve made so many good friends and memories along the way.
USA DSA: Your setup is crucial in downhill racing. Can you walk us through your current luge setup and why it’s your go-to choice?
CM: I make my own luge chasis, but primarily ride Ronin trucks, Seismic wheels, and Zealous bearings. If I want to get slippy, Powell wheels are a go to.
USA DSA: Heading into the world championships, what’s going through your mind? Any specific strategies or mindsets you’re focusing on?
CM: Just maintain my strength, luge as much as I can, and keep ripping with my friends. Am experimenting a bit with the geometry of my luge chassis for a more race centric approach as well.
