ASSOCIATION COMMITTEES

To promote transparency, growth, and athlete support, the USA Downhill Skateboarding Association has established eight key committees. Each plays a vital role in the success and development of downhill skateboarding and street luge as sports. Below is an overview of these committees, their structures, responsibilities, and functions.

Athlete Representative Committee

Purpose:

• Provides athletes with a platform to voice their concerns, ideas, and suggestions directly to the governing body.

Structure:

• Two representatives from each division:
• Standup Skateboarding: One male, one female
• Street Luge: One male, one female

Responsibilities:

• Represent the interests of athletes in their respective divisions.
• Act as liaisons between athletes and the organization.
• Participate in decision-making meetings and advocate for fairness and transparency.
• Ensure athlete feedback is addressed promptly and effectively.

Function:

• Meets quarterly to discuss athlete concerns and communicates recommendations to the Board of Directors.

Event Planning & Logistics Committee

Purpose:

• Oversees the organization and execution of national and local downhill skateboarding and street luge events.

Responsibilities:

• Plan event schedules, venues, and logistics.
• Coordinate with local authorities for permits and safety protocols.
• Ensure all events meet safety, competition, and organizational standards.
• Manage event budgets and sponsorship integration.

Function:

• Works closely with event organizers, sponsors, volunteers, and local communities to deliver successful events that promote the sport.

Safety & Regulations Committee

Purpose:

• Ensures the safety of athletes and adherence to standardized rules across all competitions.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain safety guidelines for athletes and events.
• Review and update competition rules and standards regularly.
• Investigate incidents or rule violations and recommend corrective actions.
• Promote educational initiatives for safe practices in downhill skateboarding and street luge.

Function:

• Meets biannually to review safety protocols and assess emerging risks. Meets monthly to discuss upcoming events and National Championship events.

Athlete Development & Education Committee

Purpose:

• Supports athlete growth through education, training, and resources.

Responsibilities:

• Create and manage training programs to improve athlete performance.
• Offer workshops and educational resources on nutrition, fitness, and mental health.
• Mentor new athletes entering the sport.
• Provide guidance on navigating sponsorships and career development.

Function:

• Regularly interacts with athletes to assess their needs and implements programs to foster their growth.

Sponsorship & Marketing Committee

Purpose:

• Secures funding and promotes the sport through sponsorships, partnerships, and marketing efforts.

Responsibilities:

• Develop sponsorship packages and secure brand partnerships.
• Promote events and athletes through digital and traditional marketing campaigns.
• Enhance the visibility of the sport through media coverage and outreach.
• Manage the association’s online presence and branding.

Function:

• Meets monthly to assess sponsorship opportunities and review marketing strategies.

Fundraising & Grants Committee

Purpose:

• Secures funding for the association and its athletes through fundraising campaigns and grant opportunities.

Responsibilities:

• Identify and apply for grants to support athletes and programs.
• Organize fundraising events and initiatives.
• Engage the community and donors to increase support for the sport.

Function:

• Meets monthly to review funding opportunities and coordinate fundraising efforts.

Governance & Ethics Committee

Purpose:

• Maintains the integrity of the association by overseeing governance, compliance, and ethical standards.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and enforce policies related to ethics and conduct.
• Ensure compliance with organizational bylaws and external regulations.
• Address conflicts of interest and ethical violations.
• Review and approve contracts and agreements involving the association.

Function:

• Meets as needed to handle governance matters and review policies.
